Rio de Janeiro increased by 33% the number of police during the Olympic

The government of Rio de Janeiro announced today that it will add 3,503 more police to the contingent originally planned to ensure the safety of the Olympic Games , which was 10,414 agents, representing an increase of 33 %.

Militarized Police suspended the holidays, special leave and will patrol on the street agents usually engaged with bureaucratic tasks, as detailed the general corps commander, Colonel Edison Duarte, at a press conference.

The new contingent, 634 agents will be responsible for strengthening the police responsible for patrolling the favelas that have been declared "pacified" after being kicked out of them to drug gangs that dominated.

With new police, the security apparatus of the Olympic Games and involves some 55,000 troops from various security forces, including 22,000 soldiers.

Although the city is militarized, last weekend assaults were reported to car drivers in the Rebouças tunnel, one of the main streets of the Brazilian city.
