Strong winds in Rio forced to cancel training rowing

Training for Olympic rowing competition in Rio de Janeiro on Monday has been canceled due to high winds the Brazilian city four days before the start of the Games.

Tournament organizers explained that conditions in the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon, which will be held the rowing and canoeing, made it impossible to train in place during that time.

The Games, the first held in South America, will begin this Friday, August 5. However, organizers are still finishing Olympic facilities amid a political and economic crisis in the country, which has affected the preparations.

To date, weather conditions in Rio have not helped the rowers. In addition, the main ramp of the sailing competition was destroyed last Saturday by the high tide and big waves and Sunday sandbags were placed to deal with the strong waves that hit television facilities along Copacabana.
